Connecting to Inner Guidance

At some point, it can feel overwhelming to sort through so much information and reading. My best advice for beginning to use resources is simple: tune in to your own inner guidance.

You can start anywhere you like. You might be curious about meditation, or interested in health and wellness, or discovering shadow work and integrating healing. There is no “right” pace. Whatever your journey looks like, and whatever your heart is telling you... follow that.

I write these blogs with the understanding that many people may be at the beginning of a spiritual awakening, or just waking up to how toxic parts of this world can be, and feeling like they can’t tolerate it anymore. Some may be learning about things like toxic family dynamics, empathy, narcissism, ego, shadow work, or how to navigate a spiritual awakening for the very first time. Others may already be deeply familiar with these topics. Wherever you are, you are welcome here. Use these resources in whatever way feels supportive, and listen closely to what your inner guidance is saying.

There may be times when something you read doesn’t land, confuses you, or even frustrates you. If that happens, I suggest taking a break and coming back to it later, maybe weeks or even months down the road. A wise holistic healer I met once shared this advice with me: if something doesn’t sit right, you’re allowed to pause and revisit it later to see how it feels then. I was deeply grateful for that guidance, because there are so many voices saying so many things, and not all of them are coming from clarity, integrity, or a full perspective.

My own intuition was challenged many times when I felt pressured to accept someone else’s spiritual viewpoint, even when it felt off or unhelpful to me. It’s important to remember that we are all learning. People often explain things in the best way they know how, and their intentions may be good. Still, that doesn’t mean their perspective is complete or meant for you.

When something doesn’t resonate, one of two things may be happening. Either it’s a perspective you’re not yet open to, perhaps because it challenges the ego, or it may genuinely be convoluted, distorted, or simply not true for you. Not every teaching is meant for every person. There are so many healing modalities that may be right for a person at a certain time, but not right later down the road. Either way, try to stay open-minded while also giving yourself full permission to trust your gut when it says no.

Here's a brief example of what this can look like... once, while browsing the “spiritual” section of a library, I picked up a book without even reading the title. Immediately, my body responded with a strong no—almost a sense of physical discomfort or disgust. I put it back and picked up another book, and instantly felt a clear yes. That kind of "body knowing" made it much easier to find what was right for me. This does take time to practice and learn your body's responses. Be curious and listen and see what happens when you tune into that inner compass.

Another example: I once came across a spiritual guru on Instagram talking about absorbing energy from others. From the start, I felt an uneasy vibe. What he was saying didn’t feel right to me. His suggestions seemed helpful from a general approach but slowly led to other mindsets that felt unhealthy or like it was missing some information or understanding. I stayed with the content for a while, questioning whether I was being resistant... or if my intuition was warning me. Over time, I noticed the way he interacted with people felt more like a sales pitch than genuine guidance. Whatever the case, I knew I couldn’t continue watching, even if some parts of what he said sounded true. My body and intuition were clear. It was time to leave that space.

One final suggestion: keep a journal—paper and pen or notes on your phone. Use whatever feels easiest for you. Write down what you’re learning, what questions arise, and what you’re noticing in yourself. You may find that, over time, you’re able to answer many of those questions on your own.

I invite you now to pause for a moment. Close your eyes if you’d like. Take a few deep breaths. Relax your body. And listen. Where are you going next?
